The word “sambo” is an acronym of the Russian words, “SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya,” which is why the word is sometimes seen in all caps as SAMBO. The meaning of sambo is literally, “self-defense without weapons.” The fighting style is often simply referred to as “sambo” for brevity.
Here at Fort Worth Sambo we cover both Sport and Combat Sambo: want to throw some kicks and punches? Then put on some gloves and guards. Just want to work on your throws and takedowns today? Then go glove-less. Here we match up students into each group based on what they want to do that day. From there the general topic of the day is the same, it is usually just the entries that change.
Sambo is a versatile martial art and combat sport that fuses judo and wrestling. It encompasses ground fighting, throws, and submission holds, alongside standing techniques like punches, kicks, knee strikes, and elbow strikes for Combat Sambo. Incorporating a dynamic blend of grappling and striking techniques, Sambo offers practitioners a well-rounded skill set that seamlessly integrates both ground and stand-up combat scenarios.
Step into the realm of Combat Sambo, a martial art closely aligned with MMA, encompassing a comprehensive array of striking and grappling techniques. This intense sport incorporates punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and even headbutts and groin strikes, presenting a full-contact combat experience. Athletes don protective gear including jackets similar to those in sports sambo, along with hand and shin guards, ensuring safety while maintaining the sport’s raw intensity.
